Frequently asked questions
Does Crystallis work offline?
Yes. The full Atlas — 100 recipes across 10 cuisines — is bundled inside the App and renders without any network connection. The only network activity is an opt-in push channel and a small release-status check.
Where are my favorites stored?
Locally on your device, in UserDefaults. They are tied to a
stable per-recipe slug (country + name) so they survive app restarts and
updates. Uninstalling the App removes all local data.
I tapped a metric and don't understand what it means.
- Texture — relative firmness, from foam (0) to crystal (1).
- Brix — sugar concentration. Toggle between
°Bxand%in Profile → Brix unit. - Fat-core — proportion of the recipe that is fat-driven (butter, cream, nut paste).
- Aroma — intensity of volatile aromatics (vanilla, citrus, rosewater).
- Methodology — engineering complexity, from raw assembly (0) to multi-stage tempering (1).
Why did the migration map move differently for two recipes?
Each recipe has its own three-step migration path with its own era, region, driver, and transformation. Selecting a different recipe redraws the timeline. The animated rail is purely visual — the data lives in the cards.
Can I add my own recipes?
Not in the current version. User-submitted recipes are on the roadmap but require careful curation to keep the dataset historically grounded.
Why does the app ask for notification permission?
To deliver occasional product updates via OneSignal. You can decline — the App is fully usable without notifications. Permission can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings → Notifications → Crystallis.
Troubleshooting
App is stuck on the loading screen
The release-status check has a 15-second timeout and falls back to the main app on failure. If you still see the loader after 30 seconds: force-quit the App and reopen. If the issue persists, email us with your device model and iOS version.
The "Update Now" screen keeps appearing
This means our server has flagged your installed build as out of date. Open the App Store entry from the prompt and update. If you tap Continue, the prompt will skip until the next launch.
Haptics not working
Open Profile → Haptics and toggle the switch. iOS also disables haptics in low-power mode.
